How to Play

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Purchase Your Ticket: Visit any authorized South Dakota Lottery retailer throughout the state. South Dakota Lottery tickets are available at over 1,000 retail locations including convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores.

2. Number Selection: Choose five numbers from 1 to 35 using one of these methods:

   • Manual Selection: Use a playslip and mark your five chosen numbers, then hand it to the cashier
   • Quick Pick: Request Quick Pick or mark the QP box on your playslip and let the computer randomly generate your five numbers
   • Tell the Cashier: Simply tell the cashier your five chosen numbers

3. Add EZ Match (Optional): Add the EZ Match instant-win feature for an additional $1 per play. When you add EZ Match, five EZ Match numbers with corresponding prize amounts will be printed on your ticket. If any EZ Match numbers match any of your Dakota Cash numbers, you instantly win the prize shown (up to $100).

4. Multi-Draw Option: Play the same numbers for up to 9 consecutive drawings on a single ticket. Mark the Multi-Draw section on your playslip or tell the cashier how many drawings you want.

5. Pay for Your Ticket: Each base game costs $1 per play. Add $1 for EZ Match if selected.

6. Check Your Ticket: Verify all numbers, drawing dates, and EZ Match selection are correct before leaving the retailer. Once printed, Dakota Cash tickets cannot be canceled.

7. Check EZ Match Immediately: If you purchased EZ Match, check your ticket right away. If any of your five EZ Match numbers match any of your five Dakota Cash numbers, you win that prize instantly - no need to wait for the drawing.

8. Wait for Drawing: Drawings occur every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:00 PM CST (Central Standard Time).

Prize Structure

Dakota Cash offers four prize tiers based on matching numbers. Prizes are pari-mutuel, meaning prize amounts may vary based on the number of tickets sold and winners in each prize tier.

Overall Odds: Approximately 1 in 7.2 of winning any prize.

Important Prize Notes:

• Prize amounts (except jackpot) are pari-mutuel and may vary with each drawing
• Pari-mutuel prizes are calculated by dividing a percentage of ticket sales among all winners at that prize level
• The jackpot is progressive and grows by a percentage of ticket sales until won
• If multiple players match all 5 numbers, the jackpot is divided equally among all winning tickets
• Only one prize per play - if you win by matching 5 of 5, you do not also receive lower tier prizes

Jackpot Details

Starting Amount: $20,000

Growth: The jackpot increases with each drawing by a percentage of ticket sales until someone wins

Rollover: If no one matches all 5 numbers, the jackpot rolls over and grows for the next drawing

Payout Options: Jackpot winners receive the full advertised jackpot amount as a cash lump sum (no annuity option)

Sharing: If multiple tickets match all 5 numbers, the jackpot is divided equally among winners

EZ Match Add-On Feature

EZ Match is an instant-win feature that gives you immediate prizes without waiting for the drawing.

How EZ Match Works:

• Add EZ Match for an additional $1 per Dakota Cash play
• Your ticket will print five EZ Match numbers, each with a prize amount next to it
• If any of your five EZ Match numbers match any of your five Dakota Cash numbers, you instantly win the prize amount shown next to the matching EZ Match number
• You can win multiple EZ Match prizes if multiple EZ Match numbers match your Dakota Cash numbers
• EZ Match prizes are completely separate from the main Dakota Cash drawing prizes
• You can win EZ Match prizes AND Dakota Cash drawing prizes on the same ticket

EZ Match Prize Structure:

• Maximum instant win: $100
• Prize amounts on each ticket vary
• Typical prize amounts: $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $10, $20, $50, $100
• Overall odds of winning any EZ Match prize: approximately 1 in 4.5

EZ Match Examples:

• Your Dakota Cash numbers: 5, 12, 23, 28, 35
• Your EZ Match numbers: 12 ($5), 18 ($2), 23 ($10), 29 ($1), 35 ($100)
• Matches: 12 matches (win $5), 23 matches (win $10), 35 matches (win $100)
• Total instant winnings: $5 + $10 + $100 = $115
• You still play in the regular Dakota Cash drawing for additional prizes

Ticket Pricing

• Base Game: $1 per play
• With EZ Match: $2 per play ($1 base + $1 EZ Match)
• Multi-Draw (no EZ Match): $1 × number of drawings (up to 9 drawings = $9)
• Multi-Draw with EZ Match: $2 × number of drawings (up to 9 drawings = $18)

Prize Claiming

• Prizes $1-$599: Redeem at any South Dakota Lottery retailer
• Prizes $600+: Must be claimed at the South Dakota Lottery offices in Pierre, SD, or by mail with a completed Winner's Claim Form and signed ticket
• EZ Match Instant Prizes: All EZ Match prizes can be claimed immediately at any retailer (if under $600)
• Claim Deadline: All prizes must be claimed within 180 days (approximately 6 months) of the drawing date. After 180 days, unclaimed prizes are forfeited.
• Tax Requirements: Prizes of $600 or more require winners to complete IRS Form W-2G for tax reporting

Drawing Process

• Drawings use a random number generator or mechanical draw machine
• Five numbers are randomly selected from 1 to 35
• Drawings are supervised and audited for security and fairness
• Winning numbers are posted immediately after drawings at retailers and on the South Dakota Lottery website
