How to Play

Number Selection: Choose four numbers, each from 0 through 9. You can select your own numbers or request an Easy Pick for random selection.

Wager Amount: Select your wager amount: $0.50 (available for Straight, Box, Front Pair, and Back Pair only), $1.00, $2.00, $3.00, $4.00, or $5.00. All prizes scale proportionally with your wager - the prize amount is multiplied by your wager amount. Prize examples shown below are based on a $1 wager.

Play Types:

1. Straight Play - Match all four numbers in EXACT order as drawn

   • $0.50 wager wins $3,000
   • $1.00 wager wins $6,000
   • $5.00 wager wins $30,000
   • Odds: 1 in 10,000
   • This play type offers the highest payout, as you must match all four digits in the exact order they are drawn

2. Box Play - Match all four numbers in ANY order Box plays are classified by the combination of numbers selected:

   • 4-Way Box (three numbers the same, one different, e.g., 1112):

     • $0.50 wager wins $600
     • $1.00 wager wins $1,200
     • Odds: 1 in 2,500
     • Four possible winning combinations

   • 6-Way Box (two pairs of numbers, e.g., 1122):

     • $0.50 wager wins $400
     • $1.00 wager wins $800
     • Odds: 1 in 1,667
     • Six possible winning combinations

   • 12-Way Box (one pair of numbers and two different, e.g., 1123):

     • $0.50 wager wins $200
     • $1.00 wager wins $400
     • Odds: 1 in 833
     • Twelve possible winning combinations

   • 24-Way Box (all four numbers different, e.g., 1234):

     • $0.50 wager wins $100
     • $1.00 wager wins $200
     • $5.00 wager wins $1,000
     • Odds: 1 in 417
     • Twenty-four possible winning combinations
     • This is the most common box type with the best odds for box play

3. Straight/Box Combination - Win by matching in EXACT order and/or ANY order

   • This play type combines a Straight and Box wager
   • If your numbers match in exact order, you win both the Straight and Box prizes combined
   • If your numbers match in any order but not exact order, you win only the Box prize
   • Requires at least $1 total wager (split between Straight and Box portions)
   • Prize amounts vary based on box type (4-way, 6-way, 12-way, or 24-way)
   • Example: 24-Way Straight/Box on $1 wager wins $3,100 for exact match or $100 for any-order match

4. Front Pair - Match the first two numbers in exact order (last two numbers can be anything)

   • $0.50 wager wins $25
   • $1.00 wager wins $50
   • Odds: 1 in 100
   • Only the first two digits need to match in exact order; the last two digits are ignored

5. Back Pair - Match the last two numbers in exact order (first two numbers can be anything)

   • $0.50 wager wins $25
   • $1.00 wager wins $50
   • Odds: 1 in 100
   • Only the last two digits need to match in exact order; the first two digits are ignored

Understanding Box Types: The type of Box play is determined by the combination of numbers you select:

• All different numbers (e.g., 1234) = 24-Way Box
• One pair + two different (e.g., 1123) = 12-Way Box
• Two pairs (e.g., 1122) = 6-Way Box
• Three same + one different (e.g., 1112) = 4-Way Box

Each box type has different odds and prizes because there are different numbers of possible winning combinations.

Choosing Your Play Type: When filling out your playslip, mark which play type you want: Straight, Box, Straight/Box, Front Pair, or Back Pair. You can play multiple play types on the same ticket by filling out multiple game panels.

Multi-Draw: Check the Multi-Draw box to purchase tickets for up to 16 consecutive drawings at a time. This is convenient if you want to play the same numbers over multiple days. You can choose to play just Midday drawings, just Evening drawings, or both.

Drawing Selection: Choose whether to play the Midday drawing, Evening drawing, or both. Mark your selection on the playslip. Playing both drawings requires purchasing both separately.

Easy Pick: Request an Easy Pick to have the lottery terminal randomly select your four numbers. This is the quickest way to play if you don't have specific numbers in mind.

How to Win: After the drawing, check if your numbers match the winning numbers according to your chosen play type. Straight requires exact order match, Box requires any order match (with prize based on box type), Pairs require two-digit matches in specific positions.

Prize Calculation Example: If you play a $2 wager on a 24-Way Box and win, you would receive $200 × 2 = $400. All prizes scale proportionally with your wager amount.

Overall Odds: Overall odds vary by play type selected. The best odds are for Pair plays at 1 in 100, offering a good balance between odds and payout. Box plays have odds ranging from 1 in 417 (24-way) to 1 in 2,500 (4-way). Straight play has the longest odds at 1 in 10,000 but offers the highest prize of up to $6,000 on a $1 wager.

Claiming Prizes: Pick 4 prizes must be claimed within 90 days of the drawing in which they were won. Prizes under $600 can be claimed at any Iowa Lottery retailer. Larger prizes must be claimed at Iowa Lottery headquarters or regional offices. Winners must be at least 21 years old.
