Jackpot Details:
- Starting Jackpot: $20 million (annuitized value)
- Minimum Jackpot Increase: The jackpot grows with each drawing in which no one wins, with the increase amount dependent on ticket sales
- Annuity Option: The advertised jackpot is paid as an annuity of 30 graduated payments over 29 years. The first payment is made immediately upon claiming, followed by 29 annual payments, each increasing by 5% over the previous payment.
- Cash Option (Lump Sum): Winners may elect a single lump-sum cash payment equal to the total amount in the jackpot prize pool at the time of the drawing. The cash value is typically 40-60% of the advertised annuity amount, depending on current interest rates.
- Claim Period: Winners typically have 90 days to 1 year to claim (varies by state).
Power Play Add-On: Cost: $1 per play (in addition to the $2 base ticket)
Power Play multiplies all non-jackpot prizes by a randomly selected multiplier drawn before the main Powerball drawing.
Power Play Multiplier Values and Probabilities
The Power Play number is drawn from a pool of 43 balls (42 balls when jackpot exceeds $150 million):
| Multiplier | Number of Balls | Probability | Approx. Odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2x | 24 balls | 24/43 (55.8%) | 1 in 1.75 |
| 3x | 13 balls | 13/43 (30.2%) | 1 in 3.23 |
| 4x | 3 balls | 3/43 (7.0%) | 1 in 14.0 |
| 5x | 2 balls | 2/43 (4.7%) | 1 in 21.0 |
| 10x | 1 ball | 1/43 (2.3%) | 1 in 43.0 |
Important: The 10x multiplier is ONLY available when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less. When the jackpot exceeds $150 million, the 10x ball is removed and the draw is from a pool of 42 balls, with adjusted probabilities for 2x-5x.

Double Play Key Rules
- Fixed Top Prize: The Double Play top prize is always a flat $10,000,000 cash (not annuitized) in every drawing, regardless of the Powerball jackpot amount.
- Power Play Does Not Apply: Even if you purchased both Power Play and Double Play on the same ticket, the Power Play multiplier does NOT apply to prizes won in the Double Play drawing.
- Same Numbers: You cannot pick different numbers for Double Play; it uses the identical set of numbers from your Powerball play.
- Cannot Be Played Alone: Double Play is only available as an add-on to a Powerball ticket.
Double Play Participating Jurisdictions (27 Total)
Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington.
Multi-Draw / Advance Play: Most states allow you to play the same set of numbers for multiple consecutive Powerball drawings on a single ticket. The number of advance drawings available varies by state:
- Typical range: 2 to 26 consecutive drawings
- Some states offer up to 39 drawings (e.g., Florida)
- California allows up to 10 consecutive draws
- Delaware allows up to 15 advanced drawings
- Texas and Missouri allow up to 15 consecutive drawings
When using multi-draw, you pay the full ticket price (including any add-ons) multiplied by the number of drawings selected.
Quick Pick: Quick Pick allows the lottery terminal to randomly generate your numbers. You can request a Quick Pick at any authorized retailer or through your state's online lottery platform. There is no statistical advantage or disadvantage to using Quick Pick versus selecting your own numbers -- each combination has an equal probability of being drawn. Historically, approximately 70-80% of Powerball jackpot winners have used Quick Pick.
Special Rules:
- California Pari-Mutuel: In California, all Powerball prize amounts (except the jackpot) are determined on a pari-mutuel basis. This means California prize amounts are calculated based on ticket sales and the number of winners at each prize level, rather than being fixed dollar amounts. California prizes may be higher or lower than the fixed prizes shown above. Power Play is not available in California.
- Jackpot Sharing: If there are multiple jackpot winners in a single drawing, the jackpot is split equally among all winning tickets.
- Minimum Age: Players must be at least 18 years old in most states (21 in Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, and Mississippi; 19 in Nebraska).
