How to Play

Megabucks is played by selecting 5 different numbers from 1 to 41 and 1 Megaball number from 1 to 6. Match all 6 numbers to win the jackpot, or match fewer numbers to win one of eight additional prize levels.

Number Selection:

• Main Numbers: Mark 5 different numbers from 1 to 41 in the main play area of your play slip
• Megaball: Mark 1 number from 1 to 6 in the Megaball section

The order in which the five main white balls are drawn doesn't matter, but the Megaball number must match exactly.

Quick Pick: Mark the Quick Pick (QP) box on your play slip and the lottery terminal will randomly select all 5 main numbers and 1 Megaball for you. You can also use Quick Pick for just the main numbers or just the Megaball.

Multi-Draw: Play your numbers for up to 30 consecutive drawings (10 weeks of play) by marking the multi-draw option. This ensures you never miss a drawing and is perfect for players with favorite numbers.

Multiple Plays: Each play slip contains up to 5 panels, allowing you to play up to 5 different number combinations on a single ticket.

Prize Structure: Megabucks offers nine prize levels ranging from $2 to the progressive jackpot. Here are all prizes based on a $2 play:

Overall Odds: The overall odds of winning any prize are approximately 1 in 6, giving players excellent chances of winning something.

Jackpot Mechanics: The Megabucks jackpot is pari-mutuel, meaning the prize pool is determined by ticket sales across all three states (New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont). The jackpot grows with each drawing until someone wins. When multiple players match all 5 numbers plus the Megaball, the jackpot is divided equally among all winning tickets. Recent jackpots have been in the range of $1 million to $2 million, though the jackpot can grow much larger during extended roll periods.

Prize Payments: The jackpot and all prizes are paid as a single lump-sum cash payment. There are no annuity options for Megabucks. Non-jackpot prizes are fixed amounts (except for the second prize of $30,000 which may be pari-mutuel in rare high-winner circumstances).

Pari-Mutuel Notice: In very rare instances where the lottery cannot pay the stated set prize levels due to an unusually high number of winners, the prize pools will become pari-mutuel (like the jackpot) and be divided among all winners. This is an extremely uncommon occurrence.

Claiming Prizes: Prizes up to $599 can be claimed at any New Hampshire Lottery retailer. Prizes of $600 or more must be claimed at New Hampshire Lottery headquarters in Concord or by mail with a claim form. All prizes must be claimed within one year (365 days) of the winning draw date.
