How to Play

To play Minnesota Pick 3, choose three numbers from 0 to 9 (each digit can be the same or different). Select your wager amount: $0.50, $1.00, or up to $5.00 (amounts over $1 must be requested manually from the retailer). Choose one of the eight play types described below. You can purchase tickets for up to 14 draws at a time using the Multi-Draw option.

Play Types:

1. Straight: Your three numbers must match the winning numbers in the exact order drawn. This is the highest-paying play type. Prize: $500 for a $1.00 wager. Odds: 1 in 1,000.

2. 3-Way Box: For use when two of your three numbers are the same (e.g., 112, 778, 445). Your numbers win if they match the drawn numbers in any order. Since there are only three possible arrangements of numbers with a pair, this is called a "3-Way." Prize: $166 for a $1.00 wager (approximately $167 on some systems). Odds: 1 in 333.

3. 6-Way Box: For use when all three of your numbers are different (e.g., 123, 789, 456). Your numbers win if they match the drawn numbers in any order. Since there are six possible arrangements of three unique numbers, this is called a "6-Way." Prize: $83 for a $1.00 wager. Odds: 1 in 167.

4. Straight/3-Way Box: A combination bet that covers both Straight and 3-Way Box outcomes. If your numbers match in exact order, you win both the Straight and Box prizes. If they match in any other order, you win just the Box prize. Prizes (for $1.00 wager): $330 if matched in exact order, $80 if matched in any order (but not exact).

5. Straight/6-Way Box: A combination bet that covers both Straight and 6-Way Box outcomes. If your numbers match in exact order, you win both prizes. If they match in any other order, you win just the Box prize. Prizes (for $1.00 wager): $290 if matched in exact order, $40 if matched in any order (but not exact).

6. Front Pair: Match the first two numbers drawn in exact order (the third number doesn't matter). Prize: $50 for a $1.00 wager. Odds: 1 in 100.

7. Back Pair: Match the last two numbers drawn in exact order (the first number doesn't matter). Prize: $50 for a $1.00 wager. Odds: 1 in 100.

8. Combo (Combination): Automatically places Straight bets on all possible combinations of your three chosen numbers. For a 3-Way, you'd place three Straight bets (costing $3 for $1 bets). For a 6-Way, you'd place six Straight bets (costing $6 for $1 bets). If any combination wins, you receive the Straight prize of $500 (for a $1 wager per combination).

Wager Amounts: Common bet amounts are $0.50 and $1.00, but you can wager up to $5.00 per play by asking the retailer to manually key in your desired wager. Prize amounts scale proportionally with your wager (a $2 wager pays double the $1 prize amounts, a $0.50 wager pays half the $1 prize amounts).

Multi-Draw: Purchase your Pick 3 numbers for up to 14 consecutive drawings at once. Your numbers and play type will be played in each drawing automatically.

Quick Pick: If you don't want to choose your own numbers, select Quick Pick and the lottery terminal will randomly generate three numbers for you.

Play Slips: Fill out a Pick 3 play slip at any Minnesota Lottery retailer by marking your three numbers, your play type, and your wager amount. You can play multiple combinations on a single play slip.

Overall Strategy: Straight offers the highest payout but requires an exact match (hardest to win). Box plays offer lower payouts but more ways to win since order doesn't matter. Pair plays focus on just two digits for easier wins with moderate payouts. Combination bets cover all possible arrangements but cost more since you're buying multiple tickets.
