How to Play

Number Selection: Choose six numbers from 1 to 42. You can select your own numbers using a play slip or opt for Quick Pick to have the lottery computer randomly generate your numbers. The number range was expanded from 6/40 to 6/42 in August 2020, increasing the starting jackpot from $250,000 to $500,000.

Play Slip Instructions: Each play slip contains up to 5 sets of number selections (5 play areas/panels). Use blue or black ink or pencil to mark exactly six numbers in each play area you wish to enter. Mark numbers clearly with a heavy vertical line or fill in the number completely. You can play from 1 to 5 different sets of numbers on a single play slip.

Ticket Pricing: Each play costs $1.00. If you play multiple panels on a play slip, each panel costs $1.00. For example, filling out all 5 panels on one play slip costs $5.00.

Quick Pick Options: Request Quick Pick from your retailer or mark the QP (Quick Pick) box on your play slip. The lottery computer will randomly select six numbers from 1-42 for you. You can request up to 10 Quick Picks on one ticket by asking your local retailer. This is ideal for players who want random selections or multiple entries quickly.

Multi-Draw Feature: Play your selected numbers for multiple consecutive drawings: 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, or 20 consecutive drawings. This feature saves time and ensures you never miss a drawing. Your numbers will automatically be entered in all selected future drawings. When you claim a prize during a multi-draw series, you'll receive an Exchange ticket for the balance of any drawings remaining.

Jackpot Mechanics: The Louisiana Lotto jackpot starts at a guaranteed minimum of $500,000 cash and grows based on ticket sales until won. The jackpot is pari-mutuel, meaning if multiple players match all six numbers, the jackpot is divided equally among all winning tickets in that drawing. The prize for matching 5 numbers is also pari-mutuel and averages around $1,000 (previously $2,000 before the 6/42 matrix change).

Winning Requirements: To win the jackpot, match all six numbers drawn. The order of numbers does not matter - only matching all six numbers is required. You can also win by matching 5, 4, or 3 of the six numbers drawn:

• Match 6 numbers: Cash Jackpot (minimum $500,000, pari-mutuel)
• Match 5 numbers: Approximately $1,000 (pari-mutuel)
• Match 4 numbers: $50 (fixed prize)
• Match 3 numbers: $3 (fixed prize)

Odds Comparison: The odds of winning the Louisiana Lotto jackpot are 1 in 5,245,786, which is significantly better than Powerball's 1 in 292 million odds. This makes Louisiana Lotto one of the most winnable jackpot games available to Louisiana players.

Lump Sum Payment: All Louisiana Lotto prizes are paid as single lump sum cash payments. There is no annuity option.

Overall Odds: The overall odds of winning any prize in Louisiana Lotto are 1 in 34.4.

Prize Claim Period: Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes. Prizes not claimed within 180 days are forfeited and returned to the Louisiana Lottery fund.
