To play California Daily Derby, purchase a ticket for $2 per play. Select three horses (from 12 total horses numbered 1-12) to finish in first, second, and third place in that exact order, then select a race time representing how long it takes the first-place horse to complete the race.

Understanding the Race Time: The race time represents the finishing time for the first-place horse, ranging from 1 minute 40.00 seconds to 1 minute 49.99 seconds, formatted as 1:4X.XX where X represents digits you select.

How to Select Race Time:

• The race time format is 1:4X.XX (always starts with 1:4)
• You only pick the last three digits on your playslip
• These three digits represent: [second tens digit]:[hundredths digits]
• Example: To play race time 1:42.31, mark 2:31 on your playslip
• Example: To play race time 1:47.89, mark 7:89 on your playslip
• Valid range: 0:00 through 9:99 (representing 1:40.00 through 1:49.99)

Step-by-Step Playing Instructions:

Step 1: Choose Your Horses

• Select 3 different horses from horses numbered 1 through 12
• Choose the exact order for first, second, and third place
• Each horse has equal probability of winning any position
• You may use a playslip to mark your selections or request Quick Pick

Step 2: Pick Your Race Time

• Select the last 3 digits of the race time (X:XX format on playslip)
• Remember this represents 1:4X.XX seconds
• You can choose any combination from 0:00 to 9:99

Step 3: Choose Quick Pick (Optional)

• Request "Quick Pick" to have the terminal randomly select both your horses and race time

Exacta - Two-horse prediction:

• Pick the first and second place horses in exact order
• Third place horse and race time don't matter
• Example: If you pick Horse 12-Horse 7 for first and second, only those two positions must match exactly

Win - Single horse bet:

• Pick only the first-place finishing horse
• Second, third place, and race time don't matter
• Easiest way to win with best odds at 1 in 13.2

Race Time Only - Time prediction:

• Match only the 3-digit race time
• Horse finishing positions don't matter
• Must match the exact time down to hundredths of a second

Important Prize Notes:

• All Daily Derby prizes are pari-mutuel, meaning they are calculated based on ticket sales and the number of winners for each draw
• Advertised prize amounts are typical examples but actual prizes vary with each drawing
• If no one wins the Grand Prize, that prize pool does NOT roll over to the next drawing (resets to standard amount)
• Prize pool is distributed among winners in each tier separately

Drawing Process: An Automated Draw Machine (state-of-the-art computer system) randomly generates:

• Three horse numbers (1-12) in finishing order for first, second, and third place
• One race time (1:40.00 to 1:49.99) representing the first-place horse's finishing time

• Download the California Lottery mobile app
• Scan your ticket at participating retail locations using validation machines
• Results posted shortly after the daily 6:30 PM drawing
